Description

Vineyard and Winemaking:

The 2020 Oddero Barolo is crafted by Poderi e Cantine Oddero, a historic winery located in the heart of the Langhe region in Piedmont, Italy. The vineyards are situated in prime locations within the Barolo DOCG, known for their unique terroirs that contribute to the complexity and elegance of the wines. The Oddero family has been cultivating these lands and producing wine since the 18th century, combining traditional methods with modern viticulture to maintain the high quality and authenticity of their Barolos.

The winemaking process for the 2020 Oddero Barolo begins with careful hand-harvesting of Nebbiolo grapes from various vineyards. After sorting, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks with natural yeasts, ensuring the preservation of the varietal's characteristics. The wine is then aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for about 30 months, allowing it to develop its complex structure and flavors while softening the tannins. This traditional aging method is a hallmark of classic Barolo production, emphasizing elegance and longevity.

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Brilliant garnet-red color with warmer tinges developing over time.
  • Aroma: The bouquet is unmistakable and very pleasant, offering intense yet ethereal aromas of truffles, licorice, and dried flowers. It also features spicy notes and hints of earthy undertones, which add to its complexity.
  • Palate: On the palate, the 2020 Oddero Barolo is dry and full-bodied, with important, well-integrated tannins. Flavors of dark cherries, plums, and dried red fruits are complemented by a distinctive herbal character and lively pepper spice. The wine's acidity is well-balanced, providing a fresh and lingering finish.

Vineyard Information:

The Oddero vineyards are located in some of the most esteemed crus of the Barolo region, including La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, and Serralunga d'Alba. These areas are known for their unique soil compositions, which include a mix of clay, limestone, and sandy soils, contributing to the rich and diverse flavor profile of the wines. The combination of altitude, exposure, and microclimate in these vineyards allows the Nebbiolo grapes to achieve optimal ripeness and complexity.

The Oddero family places great emphasis on sustainable farming practices, respecting the environment and the natural cycles of the vineyard. This approach not only ensures the health and quality of the grapes but also preserves the land for future generations.
